Passive Fire Protection
Passive fire protection is a vital component of any fire safety system. It is integrated into the structure of a building to safeguard lives and minimize the financial impact of damage to the building and its contents.
Passive fire protection systems limit the spread of fire and smoke by containing them within a single compartment, while protecting escape routes to ensure safe evacuation.
It also protects the structural integrity of the building, ensuring long-term stability. Passive fire protection is built into walls and floors to divide the building into compartments of manageable risk.
These compartments are designed to restrict the growth and spread of fire, allowing occupants to escape safely and providing protection for firefighters. Such protection is achieved through materials like Pyroshield, Fireshield, or Multichar, which are either part of the building construction or added later to enhance fire resistance.
We have following product range under PyroShield, FireShield and MultiChar:
PyroShield and Pyrotek
PyroShield products are formulated using cementitious, acrylic, epoxy, and polyurethane technologies to deliver reliable passive fire protection. Primarily developed for cellulosic fire scenarios, these coatings provide excellent thermal insulation and fire resistance for steel, concrete, and other structural substrates. By slowing heat transfer and maintaining structural stability during fire exposure, PyroShield enhances safety across industrial, commercial, and infrastructure applications. Its advanced formulations ensure long-term durability while meeting stringent fire protection standards.
PyroShield™ W80
A single-component, water-borne, high solids intumescent coating designed for fire protection of interior steel structures, concrete, masonry, and wood surfaces. As a passive fire protection system, it forms a fire-resistant barrier on substrates such as gypsum, wood, steel, and concrete. Structural steel typically loses stability at around 500°C and can reach this temperature within minutes during a fire, making protection essential in buildings like offices, airports, and stadiums. PYROSHIELD W80 can extend structural stability by up to 120 minutes, allowing crucial evacuation time. It is capable of providing up to 3 hours of fire protection (depending on thickness) and is ideal for refineries, mining, hydroelectric, pulp and paper plants, and high-rise structures.
Pyroshield™ W1260
A single-component, water-based, high solids acrylic intumescent coating designed to provide up to 60 minutes of fire protection for metal substrates such as I-section beams, columns, and hollow sections in internal environments. It is suitable for use in refineries, mining, hydroelectric plants, pulp and paper industries, and high-rise buildings, ensuring effective passive fire protection.
PyroShield™ W1290
A single-component, water-based, high solids acrylic intumescent coating designed to provide up to 120 minutes of fire protection for metal substrates such as I-section beams, columns, and hollow sections in internal environments. It is ideal for use in refineries, mining, hydroelectric plants, pulp and paper industries, and high-rise buildings, where reliable passive fire protection is essential.
PyroShield™ W777
A single-component, water-based, high solids acrylic intumescent coating designed to provide fire protection to PVC/PE jacketed electrical cables. It is ideal for grouped or tray-mounted cables, as well as conduits and pipes in environments such as refineries, mining, hydroelectric plants, pulp and paper industries, and high-rise buildings. This is a two-component, solvent-free, amine-cured epoxy intumescent coating designed to provide passive fire protection for steel structures exposed to hydrocarbon pool fires. It can be applied up to 5 mm thickness without the need for additional reinforcing mesh and is typically used as a mid-coat in a complete system for atmospheric environments. Suitable for application over approved primers on carbon steel, hot-dip galvanized steel, and stainless steel, it meets ANSI/UL 1709 testing guidelines for fire protection ranging from 60 to 240 minutes.
Pyroshield™ E-312
This is a two-component, high solids, solvent-free, amine-cured epoxy intumescent coating designed to provide passive fire protection for steel structures exposed to cellulosic fires. It meets ANSI/UL 1709 guidelines, offering fire protection for durations ranging from 60 to 120 minutes. The coating also delivers excellent corrosion resistance and strong mechanical properties. Available in grey, it is typically used in public and industrial structures such as airports, railway stations, shopping malls, hotels, convention centres, and other infrastructure projects.
Pyroshield™ S1504
A one-component, solvent-based, high solids acrylic intumescent coating designed for fire protection of structural steelwork, tested at accredited laboratories for performance. It provides up to 2 hours of fire protection for I-section beams, columns, and hollow sections. Available in white with a matt finish, it has 64% volume solids and is typically applied at 200–1000 µm DFT (312–1562 µm WFT), offering a theoretical coverage of 0.61 m²/kg at 750 microns. Suitable application methods include brush, roller, airless spray, and air spray.
Pyrotek E1709
PYROTEK E1709 is a two-component, solvent-free, amine-cured epoxy intumescent coating designed for passive fire protection of steel in hydrocarbon pool fire scenarios. Used as a mid-coat in complete systems, it is suitable for application over approved primers on carbon steel, galvanized, and stainless steel, making it ideal for onshore oil, gas, and energy industries, including pipes, vessels, and equipment operating up to 80 °C.
